Plants do have a tendency to cross pollinate with other vegetables around them. Our banana peppers tend to be light on the 'heat' due to the way we plant them. Instead of planting next to our toxic hot jalapenos, we instead plant them next to the sweet green bell peppers. Soil conditions will also impact the level of heat in your peppers.
